Wrong language or unexpected words

Fix language detection, names, terminology, and formatting that does not match what you said.

Check recording languages

On Mac, open Settings → Dictation → Recording languages. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Preferences → Languages.

• Select the languages you actually speak during dictation.
• Leave the selection empty to use auto-detect.
• If auto-detect chooses the wrong language, select the intended language explicitly and try again.
• When using a local model on Mac, make your primary spoken language the selected language.

Test with a clear, complete sentence. Very short recordings, background speech, and abrupt language changes give detection less information.

Fix names and specialized terms

Add names, product terms, abbreviations, and other unusual words to your dictionary. Enter the spelling you want Monologue to produce, then try a new dictation.

If the raw words are close but the style is wrong, review the active mode or dictation instruction. Test once with no mode selected to separate a transcription problem from an instruction or formatting problem.

Report a result that is still wrong

Submit 👎 on the exact affected dictation. Include the intended language and what you expected in the feedback. Do not replace the example with a newly typed transcript; the affected dictation is the useful evidence.

Avoid including passwords, authentication codes, API keys, or other secrets in the report.
