Permissions and privacy
Review the system permissions and data controls used by Monologue on Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
Monologue asks only for permissions needed by the features you use.

You can review or revoke system permissions at any time. Features that depend on a revoked permission will stop working until it is restored.
Review permissions on Mac
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, then select Microphone, Accessibility, or Screen & System Audio Recording. The last label can differ on older macOS versions.
After changing Microphone or Accessibility access, quit and reopen Monologue. Screen capture is optional: leave it off if you do not want to use Deep context.
Review permissions on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone to review microphone access.
- Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Monologue to review Allow Full Access.
- Open the Monologue app and go to Settings → Preferences to review keyboard-dictation and Live Activity options.
Apple restricts third-party keyboards in password, payment, and some other secure fields. Monologue may not appear in those fields even when permissions are correct.
Local and online processing
With a local transcription model on Mac, speech-to-text can run on your Mac and work offline. Smart formatting still requires an internet connection. Remote transcription and iPhone or iPad dictation send the audio and relevant context to Monologue’s services for processing.
Send only the context that helps with the result. Do not dictate passwords, authentication codes, API keys, or other secrets.
Data controls
Open Settings → Data & Privacy in the Mac, iPhone, or iPad app. From there you can:
- Delete dictation transcripts and related local data stored on that device.
- Choose whether to share dictation transcripts with Monologue to improve dictation quality.
- Review links to the current terms and privacy policy.
On Mac, this screen also controls optional Deep context and its screen-capture permission.
Deleting local transcripts is different from deleting your Monologue account. For an account deletion or privacy request that the app does not offer, contact support.
