Use Australian or British English spelling

Set Australian or British spelling conventions and teach Monologue specific words.

Monologue does not currently have separate Australian English or British English choices under Recording languages. Keep English selected for transcription, then use Dictation Instructions—Monologue’s global custom instructions—to choose the regional spelling and writing conventions you prefer.

Set your spelling preference

On Mac:

1. Select Instructions in the Monologue sidebar.
2. Find Dictation instructions.
3. Add a clear instruction such as:

Use Australian English spelling and conventions. Prefer forms such as organise, colour, and centre.

On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Dictation Instructions and add the same instruction.

For British English, replace “Australian English” with “British English.” This instruction applies to your normal dictations; you do not need to change the spoken language away from English.

If a custom mode has Override default enabled and the spelling changes only in that mode, add the same regional preference to that mode’s instructions.

Use the dictionary for specific words

Dictation Instructions are best for an overall regional preference. Use the dictionary when a particular name, product, technical term, or spelling still needs correction.

Keep dictionary entries specific. Add the exact spelling you want, or add a replacement when the spoken and written forms differ. Do not add a paragraph of regional spelling rules to the dictionary.

If spelling is still inconsistent

Submit 👎 on the exact affected dictation and include the spelling you expected. The attached example gives support the affected result needed to investigate the accuracy issue; a newly typed version does not contain the same evidence.
