Mac indicators and system behavior

Control how Monologue appears, starts, sleeps, and pastes on your Mac.

Monologue can stay quiet in the background or remain visible while you work. These preferences do not change the words in a dictation.

Choose a recording indicator

Open Settings → Dictation → Indicator and choose:

• Classic for the full recording indicator at the screen edge.
• Mini for a compact indicator near the current text context.
• None to hide the visual indicator.

Classic and Mini can remain visible while idle or appear only during recording and processing. Mini can also stay hidden in selected apps.

Change system behavior

Open Settings → System to control:

• Open on login: Starts Monologue when you sign in to your Mac.
• Prevent sleep: Keeps the Mac awake during a recording.
• Show dock icon: Makes Monologue available in the Dock as well as the menu bar.
• Creator mode: Keeps the “Dictated with monologue.to” attribution visible.
• Support non-standard keyboards: Uses a compatibility paste method for layouts or apps that do not work with ordinary insertion.

Enable Prevent sleep before long hands-free dictations or Voice Notes when the Mac may otherwise sleep.

Fix a compatibility problem

If dictation succeeds but text does not appear, first follow Dictation or pasting is not working. Try Support non-standard keyboards only when your keyboard layout or target app still blocks normal pasting, because compatibility mode uses a different insertion path.
